Junior Pro Day at Holsworthy Golf Club I hosted my first Junior Pro Day on Saturday 29th of August.
Teaching Using the Leaderboard Golf Trainer
Junior development is a priority in my opinion as children are the future of the sport. I have taught many different boys and girls of different levels and abilities since I turned professional and find it extremely rewarding seeing them improve. When teaching Junior golfers from 5 years old to 18 I always aim to make the sessions interesting and enjoyable. Using training aids such as the Leaderboard Golf Trainer and Putting Rail all help to make this possible.

National Success I have experienced National Success with my coaching in 2007 alongside Iain Parker, Head Professional and Michael Wilson, Club Professional at Royal North Devon Golf Club. The success came when we coached five children into the National Final of one of England's largest golfing initiatives, the National Skills Challenge.
Over 100 clubs participate in the event annually over three separate challenges which test the children in five disciplines from putting and bunker play right through to long game. Over 5000 children participate in the event each year with 20 children with the highest scores in their age groups qualifying for the National Final at Woodhall Spa, the home of the English Golf Union. Remarkably, in 2007 a fifth of the finalists were made up of Royal North Devon Juniors with 2 of these, Jimmy Mullen and Michael Townshend successfully winning their age categories to become National Champions.
This year in 2008 I have had the same success but this year 6 of the 20 finalists will be representing Royal North Devon on Saturday 13th September at Woodhall Spa. See www.getintogolf.org/skills for more details.
Wood Meets Wood I met Chris Wood, Open Championship Star and European Tour Player when he came down to Royal North Devon to practise with his Gloucester team mates for the South West Amateur Championships earlier this year. I was extremely impressed by his friendly attitude towards the Juniors, his standard of golf and his work ethic as he continued to practise for long periods in all weather conditions.
